Overcome Fitness Fears
Hello Friends,

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and getting ready for the upcoming holidays.  I’m ready to eat some homemade stuffing and have a few cheat meals.
I haven’t sent out a newsletter in a few months but I’ve been very busy rehabilitating my knee, working the booth for GNC, and promoting my fitness and nutrition business.  I planned to send out a newsletter after my injury but I’ve been so consumed with getting my knee back in shape, that I haven’t had any time to sit down on the computer and write anything to anyone.  So I want to update you on my knee and the rehabilitation progress, my new services that are now on my website, and just an update on what is going on in my life and what holds for my competing future.
For any of you who haven’t heard about my knee injury, I would like to take the time to explain what happened and how my rehabilitation is progressing.  I tore my ACL during a training session; I was practicing a new move that my choreographer and I put in my routine for this year’s Olympia.  The move was one that I was not real comfortable with but looked really cool and I was determined to master it.  When I injured my knee I heard an initial pop and after that I fell to the ground.  I knew something wasn’t right and went over to my friend’s smoothie place to get some ice for my knee.  I scheduled an appointment with my sports medicine doctor the next day and he diagnosed me as having a jammed MCL and told me to just take a couple of weeks off.  After taking about a week off I still felt very uneasy about my knee and asked my doctor to schedule an MRI for me.   I went and had the MRI done and that afternoon my boyfriend and I were driving to the gym when they called and let me know that I had torn my ACL.  As soon as I got done crying I scheduled an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon for surgery.  I went through a successful patellar tendon ACL repair on August 12th and ever since that day I have been rehabilitating my knee twice a day.  I am a little behind schedule right now but am progressing very well and on my way to full flexion and extension.  I attend physical therapy 3 times a week with my doctor and the rest of the time I do my stretching and exercises here at the house or at the gym.  I have a few more weeks where I have to go to my doctor for rehab and then I will be released to do everything on my own.  I REALLY CAN’T WAIT TO BE RELEASED FROM PHYSICAL THERAPY!!!
In my last newsletter I talked about how I was updating my website and adding new services.  Well…my website has been updated and I have added all the services that I am currently offering but am always open to suggestions.  The services that I offer are:
     -OFF Challenge Academy
     -OFF Challenge Weekly Camps
-Fitness & Figure Contest Prep Academy
     -Fitness & Figure Contest Diet
     -Weekend Academy with Adela
     -Online Personal Training
     -Nutrition Counseling
     -In-Person Consultative Training
     -Fitness and Nutrition Seminars
     -Posing Session
     -Fitness Choreography Session
     -Phone Consultation
I am really excited about my OFF Challenge Academy and will be hosting it next year in different cities.  I will post what cities I will be in and the times and dates on the calendar page of my website.  I really hope ya’ll take the time to take a look around at my website and the new services that I have added.
I am confident with the way my rehab is going and know I will be back for next year’s Fitness Olympia.  I am going to compete in a few figure shows up until that time.  I am excited about having the opportunity to compete in figure again.  Other than that we will just play it by ear and be praying for the best.
Until next month I wish everyone a Happy Halloween and hope all of you are on track to reach all of your fitness and nutrition goals. Thank you all for all of your support! I would also like to send a special thanks to everyone for their letters, emails, flowers, cards, and a special thanks to my boyfriend for all of his support!
P.S.  If you sustain an ACL tear and have surgery the most important thing to do after surgery is to stretch and work the joint through the range of motion.

Rememeber no wall is too high to climb!!! Keep reaching for those goals!!!
Sincerely,

Adela Garcia

The first O.F.F Camp in Houston, Tx was a great experience.  I look forward for the next camp in Austin, Tx.

I would like to thank Jenny Hendershott for all her help and support.  Now, I really know that it really takes time and energy to be successful in anything in life.  I am very thankful for having Jenny as a best friend and for her caring attitude not only with me but with others as well.
